Group chats as an introvert. It’s like sitting at a crowded party, often where you don’t know many people. Everyone’s shouting over the music and it feels like chaos. Conversations are happening around you and you get a jist of what’s being said but most of it just contributes to the noise. It’s impossible to focus and you find yourself just wanting to leave. But that’s not socially acceptable. Even though, oftentimes, you don’t even remember being invited to this party in the first place.

The worst thing about group chats? It’s like somebody brought the party to your house. Uninvited. You’re sitting with your feet up, watching Netflix. Having dinner with your significant other. Out walking the dog. You check your phone and boom. A new group chat with a ton of messages.

Someone’s birthday, someone’s wedding, a ‘networking’ group. There seems to be a neverending list of group chats that you get added into. As an introvert, this is my worst nightmare. I instantly put it on mute. The notifications alone drive me insane. How can anyone keep up with a chat this fast? I put my phone down for 2 minutes. Pick it up and there are 50+ messages. That’s before I even consider speaking in them.

There’s more pressure speaking in a group chat as it’s broadcast to everyone…
